Tilt & Slide vs. Other Types

In contrast to old fashioned sliding doors that move along a bottom track, tilt and slide doors function a bit differently. A half rotation of the handle lifts the sash up and out so that it can slide horizontally, parallel to the fixed section. The entire sash is lifted off the track and thus can be effortlessly slid open or closed.

By rotating the handle 180 degrees, the tilt function is engaged. Just like a tilt and turn window, the entire door sash tilts inwards for ventilation. Thus, you can safely leave it slightly open without letting children or pets in and out. It also minimizes the ability of bugs to fly in if not using a window screen, particularly compared to having to leave the door open as with most patio doors.

Colours & Finishes

First, choose from among our many available timbers with both hardwoods and softwoods. Our selection includes pine, oak, larch, meranti, walnut, cherry, spruce, eucalyptus and many more. Next, you can choose from the entire range of RAL colours or opt for no paint at all. Instead, select one of our natural stains and finishes.

Care & Cleaning

Modern wood frames require significantly less upkeep than historic ones due to improved construction methods and better exterior sealing and finishing. Today's profiles are lower maintenance and require just basic cleaning and refinishing over the years.

No expensive or complicated treatments are necessary. All you need is warm water, mild soap, a soft non-abrasive cloth or brush and wood care milk. Quick, basic cleaning is recommended twice a year and refinishing or repainting every several years. The exact schedule will depend on your local climate and weather.

Barrier-free

Low threshold or barrier-free flush thresholds are also available whether to assist the elderly, prevent children from tripping or to just make life a little easier. Barrier-free tilt and slide doors are produced in accordance with ISO regulations and worth considering for both new projects and renovations.

Strength & Security

Large glass surfaces can be a tempting target for intruders. This is why Neuffer offers high security doors with many upgrade options, including:

Concealed hinges
Laminated and impact resistant safety glass

Laminated safety glass should be installed on the outermost pane at least in order to provide an added layer of security and make breaking the glass difficult. It is typically found in vehicle windshields, storm windows and other areas requiring impact resistance and that no glass shards be produced when broken.

For ground level doors, laminated safety glass should be installed at least on the outer pane. Roller shutters are another option which can be installed and offer the benefits of improving security, insulation and privacy simultaneously.

U-values & Thermal Performance

With glass comprising most of the overall door surface, it is important to choose the appropriate glazing for your desired energy-efficiency needs. We offer both double and triple glazing options with different U_g-values, various warm edge spacers and optional argon gas filled spaces between panes. The distances between panes can also be changed to provide larger gaps capable of better insulation.
